-On the afternoon of Saturday December 23rd, 2006, the firefighters working the day shift at the Thompsonville Fire Station recieved a call from a local woman recently released from an area hospital. She related to the firefighters that she did not have anything for her children for Christmas. No tree, presents or food. She had tried all other avenues and was told "it was too late" to do anything for her.
Under the direction of Local 3059 President Tom Brocuglio, the firefighters working (MOST WERE WORKING 48-96 HOURS STRAIGHT) began scrambling to obtain food, presents, and decorations for the family of 4. With the family of Tom Brocuglio pitching in to shop and wrap, the Holiday was saved for the family.
Delivered not by sleigh and reindeer, but by firetruck and firefighters, the items were brought to the home on the afternoon of the 24th, just in time for Christmas.
It is this kind of dedication and selfless commitment to the community that is the halmark of our union. Even though many of the firefighters would be away from thier own families for the holiday, they did not hesitate to help others enjoy thiers.
